For $5, A New Carrrrrr!!!!!! Raffle Starts Today!

Well…new to you!!!

***$5 per raffle ticket!!!! Drawing DECEMBER 15th!!!!!!***

Up for raffle here at Lucky Star Market is not either of these two DeLoreans we recently saw headed west on I-40 to a Wilkesboro vintage car show. But for as little as $5, you have a chance to win a pretty sweet, still-drivable, white 1992 Toyota Corolla named “Trick-Trick,” who has a lot of interesting history and a lot of potential!

Coinciding with our bike-in movie night tonight, we’re kicking off the final push to close the remaining tuition gap for our Send-A-Kid-To-Sea fundraiser! Come check out a couple of cool bike movies, drink a beer or a soda, eat some snacks, and FOR JUST 5 BUCKS casually enter yourself in the running for a new car!!!! (Of course, you can get yourself raffle tickets any time between now and the December 15th drawing, but tonight will be more fun)!

This Toyota has been in the family since 1994, and it’s been on many adventures. It’s even been occasionally and/or regularly driven by not one, but two real bike messengers! Huzzah!!!

Now’s your chance to become Trick-Trick’s new pilot!
Starting today, November 1st, you can buy as many raffle tickets as you wish, and try your hand at becoming the proud new owner of either a hassle-free tax-declarable donation or a great car that could be fixed up pretty nicely. Excellent gas mileage, no computers, and easy DIY changing of oil and filters!

A handful of early-bird tickets have already been sold, but there are plenty on hand!

If you are long-distance but interested, an online option is available! Simply click on the PayPal Donate button on this page, and once your transaction is completed, email h.ragan@yahoo.com with an address where we can email your raffle ticket numbers to you! (We can also mail to you the actual raffle tickets if you’d like!)

Drawing will be on Saturday, December 15th, coupled with another bike-in movie night!

(Stay tuned for how “Trick-Trick” got its name, and other interesting tales!)

FREE COFFEE for Send-A-Kid-To-Sea! (+Sunday Fund-Days @ Lucky Star!)

Ever had a really big dream? A really, really big one that could change your life in incredible ways? Here’s a dream come true (almost!): One of our Northside neighborhood students,  previously at Chapel Hill High School, has been accepted into the Canadian tall-ship program, Class Afloat, as a full-year student for the 2012-2013 school year!

With family, friends and community near and far, we have together helped NaaLamiley Kwakye raise about 83% of her tuition and fees, and she is now sailing aboard the Norwegian tall ship Sørlandet, a breathtaking 200ft. full-rigger built in 1927. She has worked really hard to get there, and we’re keeping the fires lit here on land to see that she reaches her final goal! With our continued support, she’ll spend the next 8 months immersed in traditional sail training, engaging in multiple multicultural explorations and volunteer service projects, and navigating an intensive academic 11th-grade school year!

With over 20 port calls along the way, she will sail the Mediterranean from Greece to Malta and France, then on to Portugal, Morocco and Senegal before crossing the Atlantic to Brazil! Later stops include tiny islands in the South Atlantic, South Africa, Namibia, the Caribbean and eventually a finish of the school year in southeastern Canada!

That is, if the remainder of Semester Two tuition is raised by us on her behalf!

With only about 45% of Semester Two tuition left to raise, we’re all pretty inspired on this end!

So far, with your help, this girl…

NaaLamiley Kwakye

is now on this ship!!!…let’s help her stay for the whole year!

Ever had a really big dream? A really, really big one that could change your life in incredible ways? One of our Northside neighborhood students, currently a sophomore at Chapel Hill High School, has been accepted into the Canadian tall ship program, Class Afloat, for the 2012-2013 school year! If all goes well, she’ll be sailing out of Istanbul, Turkey in September to kick off her junior year of high school aboard the Sorlandet, a 200ft. Norwegian tall ship built in 1927. She’ll learn square-sail sailing, celestial navigation, endless types of knots, sea(woman)ship, and be engaged in several multicultural immersion and volunteer service projects, while also being challenged by an intensive academic school year! With over 20 port calls along the way, she will sail the Mediterranean to Greece, Croatia and France, then on to Portugal, Morocco and Senegal before crossing the Atlantic to Brazil! Later stops include tiny islands in the South Atlantic, South Africa, Namibia, the Caribbean and eventually a finish of the school year in southeastern Canada! She is in the process of raising tuition funds, through a combination of grant and scholarship applications, sales of Windmill Hill Farms honey (where she worked with bees all last summer and this past Spring Break for tuition), and Sunday Fund-Days here at Lucky Star Market! Also, ALL tips every day here at Lucky Star go directly towards tuition! It’s a tall order, but there are a lot of people pulling for her to get on that tall ship and go!

Help get this girl…

NaaLamiley Kwakye

onto this ship…
